使い分け
文の種類と伝えたい意味で選ぶ
何か・誰かを特定せずに表します。肯定文は some-、有無を尋ねる疑問文や否定文は any- が基本で、no- はそれ自体で全否定を表します。
肯定文で「何かある」— There is something in the box.「箱の中に何かあります」
any-疑問文で有無を尋ねる — Is there anything in the box?「箱の中に何かありますか？」。否定文は There isn't anything in the box.「箱の中には何もありません」
no-それ自体で全否定 — There is nothing in the box.「箱の中には何もありません」。動詞は is のままで、nothing が否定を表します。There isn't anything in the box. と同じ意味です。
勧め・依頼の some-Would you like something to drink? は「何か飲み物はいかがですか？」。疑問文でも some- を使います。
誰でも・何でもの any-Anyone can join. は「誰でも参加できます」。人を限定しない意味なら肯定文にも使えます。
文法の形
ものは -thing、人は -one / -body。場所を表す -where の語も一緒に覚えます。no one は2語で書きます。
something / anything / nothing。something は「何か」、nothing は「何も〜ない」です。
someone / anyone / no one は、somebody / anybody / nobody とほぼ同じ意味です。
somewhere は「どこか」。Is there anywhere quiet? は「どこか静かな場所はありますか？」、There is nowhere quiet. は「静かな場所はどこにもありません」。quiet は場所を表す語の後ろに置きます。
文法のルール
someone / something などを主語にしたら、動詞は単数に合わせる。
Someone are waiting outside.
Someone is waiting outside.
someone を主語にするときは単数として扱います。現在進行形でも be 動詞は are ではなく is にします。
標準的な英語で「誰も〜ない」は not ... anyone。not と no one を重ねない。
I don't know no one here.
I don't know anyone here.
標準的な英語で「誰も知らない」と言うときは、don't know anyone または know no one を使います。この意味で don't と no one を重ねません。
something を説明する形容詞は後ろに置く。
I want interesting something.
I want something interesting.
something を形容詞で説明するときは、something interesting のように形容詞を後ろに置きます。interesting something の語順にはしません。
